                    What We Do

At Denver Zoo, conservation is a part of everything we do! We work with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to support animals through voluntary programs like the Species Survival Plan, a breeding program that facilitates the survival of many species by keeping zoo populations healthy and abundant. Additionally, Denver Zoo participates in conservation and research projects at the Zoo.

                    Partners in Protection

Through both, the AZA and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), Denver Zoo is working with other zoos and aquariums to promote awareness about threats to biodiversity worldwide through onsite education.

Rocky Mountain AAZK is the local American Association of Zoo Keepers chapter for the Denver area. Our membership consists of staff and volunteers of the Denver Zoo.

                    Give back to the animals

Denver Zoo's amazing animal residents enrich our lives, teach us something and connect us to nature. It is our honor to provide the best comprehensive care to ensure the health and well being of every individual.

We provide the best balanced nutrition, engaging animal enrichment and veterinary care for our animals.

                    Feed

Denver Zoo has more than 3,600 mouths (and beaks) to feed! A full-time animal nutritionist designs specific diets for each individual species and in some cases individual animals. Our commissary orders the highest-quality fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood and supplements.

                    Enrich

At Denver Zoo we enhance the lives of our animals by providing them with mental and physical stimulation to promote natural and healthy behaviors like digging, tracking scents, swimming, dusting, climbing, foraging and playing. Denver Zoo is one of only a few zoos in the country that has a full-time curator dedicated to our animal behavior and enrichment programs.

                    Care

At Denver Zoo veterinary care is proactive and includes preventative check-ups to emergency medicine. Our animal care team includes 10 veterinary team members, 79 keepers and 12 animal curators and supervisors who together provide the finest state-of-the-art care to our animals around the clock.
